Read MoreMagical Theatrical Tour – Another Tempest
Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014 at 5pm Circle Centre for the Arts | The Wyoming Valley Art League and Teatro Benefito present a staged reading of THE MAGIC OF THEATRE: ANOTHER TEMPEST suggested donatation: $12. $10 seniors, students – snacks & drink provided. ATTENTION: Shakespeare, Beatles and Fun-Lovers Join us as the BODACIOUS BARD and the FAB FOUR combine for a “Magical Theatrical Tour” Playwright Robert Andrew Anderson’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST. Music Director Jason Smeltzer will provide the accompaniment, to songs of The Beatles, on his enchanting Theremin – along with Jeff Brozena on the Tabla . Set on an island so enchanting that the previously deceased “evil witch” Sycorax, Caliban’s mother, comes back to life to become Prospero’s hilarious—and bawdy—onstage nemesis. All to Benefit RUTH’S PLACE, the only homeless shelter for women in NEPA. Shakespeare’s elegant verse and the Beatles’ music & lyrics – all mixed together? Why not? This is 2014, after all: the 450th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare and the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ discovery of America: a perfect fit, we call it. (Other influences: George Burns, Phyllis Diller, Harpo Marx, Idina Menzel, Samuel Beckett—in other words: anything goes!) So don’t hold back: join us in the celebration—and the fun—as a cast and crew, featuring some of your favorite NEPA personalities, will be donating their time and effort for a great...
